March Cattle EPD Madness
Celebrate March Madness with a cattle EPD activity! This download includes:
-Teacher Explanation of EPD’s
- Teacher Instructions for the Activity
-March Cattle Madness Bracket
- 5 cattle industry scenarios
-Data Sheet for 32 bulls that “made the tournament”
-Final Four Ticket Prediction Sheet
Students will create their own bracket using the sire data sheet. Each round of the tournament includes a cattle industry scenario. Using the data provided, students will select which sire has better data for the given EPD’s. To include the chance that EPD’s provide, students will leave some margin with a roll of the dice. Just like the better seed in the tournament doesn’t always advance, on paper, our better sire might not always advance to the next round.
This activity can be completed in 1-2 forty-five minute class periods, or spread out for a week utilizing 15-20 minutes a day. It is appropriate for students that have some existing knowledge of EPD’s, but information is provided if it will be the first time students are learning about them.
